Smithfield Foods has partnered with the major league team of Washington Nationals to sponsor monthly baseball clinics for children in the DC area, during the baseball season. This is our second year as the sponsor of what we consider to be a very good effort to promote education, exercise and proper nutrition among young people. We know that these kids are our future, and that sports and proper nutrition are very important in their development.
At the first clinic of the season on May 23rd, more than 100 kids received instructions from members of the Nationals coaching staff in fielding, batting, running, pitching and catching. Smithfield Foods provided the children with an equipment bag and lunch that included Smithfield hot dogs, chips and a beverage, following the on-field portion of the event.
In addition, Smithfield Foods held a giveaway at the ballpark on May 17th, when it distributed drawstring backpacks to 10,000 children ages 12 and younger.
